Apoester contains ß-apo-8'-carotenoic ethyl ester stabilized in a matrix of carbohydrates and gelatin coated with corn starch. It is mainly used in poultry feeds to improve the desired golden color of chicken skin and egg yolk. It can also be used to color the fish flesh of salmon, trout, aquarium fish, turtle, etc.
